Sentro Rizal’s Expansion Will Boost Cultural Exchange, Cooperation with Other Countries – Legarda

Senator Loren Legarda commended the continued expansion of Sentro Rizal, saying that it is a great opportunity to promote cultural exchange among different countries, allowing the rest of the world to further understand and appreciate Filipino culture, arts and language.

Sentro Rizal (SR) is the international cultural arm of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). It was recognized by virtue of Section 42 of Republic Act 10066 known as the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, which specifies a center “whose main purpose is the promotion of Philippine arts, culture and language throughout the world.”

Work double time

While her colleagues are preoccupied with public hearings on controversial national issues “in aid of legislation,” Senator Loren Legarda has been literally working double time. This is not to praise her because she does not need any. But I just found out from official press releases issued yesterday from her office that she is currently handling two important legislative measures.

According to her office, the Senators approved last Monday night in marathon sessions the proposed 2017 General Appropriations Act (GAA) bill. As chairperson of the Senate committee on finance, Legarda is shepherding the approval of the GAA bill.

Legarda Sponsors Senate Concurrence in AIIB Treaty

Senator Loren Legarda sponsored on Tuesday the committee report seeking the Senate’s concurrence in the ratification of the Articles of Agreement of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Senators approved the report on second reading.

Legarda, who chaired the hearing of the Sub-Committee on Foreign Relations for the AIIB Treaty, said that membership to the AIIB would help achieve its growth targets through accelerated infrastructure spending.
