Senator Loren Legarda today urged the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to be more proactive not only in addressing the needs of local government units (LGUs) that have been affected by disasters but also in ensuring that these communities are prepared even before a calamity strikes.

Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Public Expenditures (JCOCPE)

Good morning and welcome to today’s organizational meeting and committee hearing of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Public Expenditures on the utilization of the Quick Response Funds for Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017 by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and by the Office of Civil Defense.
Senator Loren Legarda said that sustainability of the country’s forests is ensuring that both present and future generations would benefit from our natural resources.
Legarda, a staunch environmentalist and Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change, said that the government should develop and adopt a sustainable forest management strategy based on rational allocation of forestland uses and promotion of land use practices that increase productivity and conserve soil, water, and other forestland resources.
Senator Loren Legarda has expressed optimism that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) would help the country overcome the threats of climate change and poverty by building sustainable and resilient environment through its financial aid and technical assistance.
