Weaving a nation

Yesterday marked the start of the National Museum’s international traveling exhibit, “Hibla ng Lahing Filipino,” in London with major support from Sen. Loren Legarda. That announcement, and a trip to the 7th Habi exhibit and sale of local handwoven textiles, got me thinking about how our textile and clothing industries have gone through many rough periods, and is still faltering today. This is a real shame when you consider that there’s a fashionista in every Filipino.

Legarda Lauds Military, Police in Marawi, Assures Assistance to Bereaved Families

Senator Loren Legarda today lauded all the military troops and police personnel who fought in Marawi City, which eventually led to the city’s liberation from terrorists.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, also assured that the bereaved families of slain soldiers and policemen would be given financial support as mandated under the law.

Legarda: Hibla, Keeping Philippine Weaving Tradition Alive

As Senator Loren Legarda leads the opening of the first Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition at the Philippine Embassy in London, she stressed the importance of the project in keeping the Philippine weaving tradition alive.

The Hibla Travelling Exhibition in London titled, “Piña-Seda: Pineapple and Silk Cloth from the Tropics,” will feature lectures onpiña-seda and demonstrations from weavers from Kalibo, Aklan and embroiderers from Lumban, Laguna.
