The Philippine Pavilion exhibition Island Weather held its vernissage today at the Artiglierie of the Arsenale in Venice, Italy. The event marked the Philippines’ entry to the 58th Venice Art Biennale, and the country’s fifth consecutive participation in the world’s biggest contemporary art exposition.
Island Weather is curated by Tessa Maria Guazon and features artist Mark Justiniani and his immersive and massive installation titled Arkipelago. The exhibition is an exploration of how an archipelagic state such as the Philippines forms its national consciousness shaped by its many islands, which all have its own unique vernacular culture and history.
Luntiang Pilipinas Party-list on Monday formally launched a campaign in Calamba, Laguna to plant ten million trees in the Philippines as part of a nationwide regreening effort that would help improve the country’s environment.
According to Luntian first nominee Michael Ubac, “our objective is not just to win a seat in Congress so we can fight for the cause of the environment; our rallying call is also this: make the Philippines green again!”
Senator Loren Legarda leads today the ceremonial voyage of FastCat from Culasi to Caticlan, a route that will soon be available to Antiqueños and tourists who want to visit the province.
Senator Loren Legarda today renewed her call for local government units (LGUs) to implement the country’s environmental laws as she commended the Office of the Ombudsman for its dismissal of Malay town Mayor Ceciron Cawaling and Licensing Officer Jen Salsona in relation to the administrative complaint filed against them for negligence in the management of Boracay Island.
It would be recalled that Boracay Island underwent a six-month temporary closure in April 2018 because of its degradation. It was reopened in October last year following successful rehabilitation efforts.
