On World Wildlife Day, Senator “Inday Loren” Legarda urged Antiqueños to protect marine and wildlife species, especially those found in Antique’s protected areas: the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park in the border of the province and Aklan, the Sibalom Natural Park in Sibalom, as well as the rivers and marine protected areas in the province.
Senator Loren Legarda today supported the global call to reduce threats against marine species and also urged authorities and stakeholders to help protect marine wildlife and biodiversity from pollution and impacts of climate change.
Legarda made the statement in celebration of this year’s World Wildlife Day, March 3, which carries the theme of “Life Below Water: For Life and Planet,” aligning with Goal 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Senator Loren Legarda today said she has ensured funding for the agricultural sector of the country, particularly the funding for free irrigation for small-scale farmers to help them prepare and cope with the expected full blast of El Niño in the coming months.
“This will be a big boost for the agriculture sector as we have unburdened our small farmers, who are among the poorest of the poor even if they are the ones who feed the nation,” the Senator stressed.
In line with this year’s celebration of Zero Discrimination Day (March 1, 2019), Senator Loren Legarda supported the global call to take action against discriminatory laws and practices worldwide and also urged Filipinos to call out discriminatory provisions in existing laws in the country.
“Our Constitution affords every Filipino their basic human rights and our laws should be able to foster a humane society where Filipinos can lead a life without prejudice, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sex, gender, and even health status,” Legarda said.
