STATEMENT OF SENATOR LOREN LEGARDA ON THE ERUPTION OF MAYON VOLCANO

My thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Filipinos in Albay following the eruption of Mayon Volcano, placing lives, homes, and livelihoods at risk.

I urge our national and local authorities to act swiftly and decisively to protect communities at risk, ensure safe and orderly evacuations, and deliver immediate assistance. Evacuation centers must provide safe and dignified shelter, especially for children, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable members of our communities.

We must also anticipate the possibility of prolonged displacement and ensure sustained support for families whose livelihoods may be disrupted. The safety and welfare of our disaster responders must likewise be protected.

Sa ating mga kababayan sa Albay, nakikiisa ako sa inyong pinagdaraanan. Ang pinakamahalaga ngayon ay ang inyong kaligtasan. Makinig po tayo sa mga abiso ng PHIVOLCS at sundin ang mga tagubilin ng ating mga lokal na awtoridad.

Patuloy na binabantayan ng aking tanggapan ang sitwasyon sa Albay. Handa kaming tumulong at makipag-ugnayan sa mga kinauukulang ahensya upang agad na matugunan ang mga pangangailangan ng mga apektadong pamilya.

Our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of the people of Albay. Let us act with urgency and compassion, ensuring that affected families receive the care and assistance they need, and that our communities are supported throughout this emergency.
