Senate approves IPs Day bill

THE SENATE on Tuesday approved on third and final reading a bill that sought to declare Aug. 9 as National Indigenous Peoples Day.
In a statement, Committee on Cultural Communities Senator Loren B. Legarda said that House Bill (HB) 4420 “seeks to recognize and protect the rights of the indigenous people (IP) across the country by dedicating August 9 to their causes.”

For the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2015, Sen. Loren Legarda wore over black sando top and pants a piña top by Marina Antonio, an heirloom clothing from her late mother, Bessie Legarda. She accessorized it with indigenous jewelry–bracelet from Kalinga, earrings from Abra and necklace from Vigan. Completing the contemporary Filipino outfit are shoes from Marikina and crocheted bag from the Bauang Crochet Association in La Union. She is wearing an all-Filipino attire.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Sen. Loren Legarda proudly flaunted her all-Filipino outfit during the third regular session of the 16th Congress and the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday (July 27).
Her plain black top and pants were accentuated by her accessories made from indigenous materials.
