Today, we gather to honor the memory of a remarkable woman who has left an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of our nation. Lily “Mother Lily” Yu Chu-Monteverde was not only a pioneering figure in the Philippine entertainment industry but also a nurturing spirit whose kindness and vision touched the lives of many.

Mother Lily was a pioneering female film producer and the founder of Regal Entertainment, Inc., where she produced numerous notable films that have become an integral part of our cultural heritage. Her vision, generosity, and resilience were evident from her earliest days in the industry. She championed the production of quality Filipino films, tirelessly discovering and nurturing local talent, and providing countless opportunities for artists and workers. Her remarkable contributions were recognized with numerous accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Cinemanila International Film Festival and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), as well as the Gawad Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement Award and the Fernando Poe Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award. Through her dedication, Mother Lily helped many carve their names in the history of Philippine cinema.

On a personal note, I mourn the loss of Mother Lily as a dear friend and maternal figure who supported me through life’s many challenges. She brought out a side of me I deeply valued, often proclaiming that I give 110 percent in everything I do. Her words always inspired me to strive for excellence. Her friendship was a gift, her mentorship a beacon, and her legacy a guiding light for all of us.

I share in the grief of her beloved children—Winston, Sherida, Roselle, Dondon, and Goldwin – as well as her grandchildren and all who were touched by her enduring presence. Mother Lily lived a life full of purpose and passion, and her memory will forever be treasured by those who knew her.

Thank you, Mother Lily, for a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever inspire us. You will always be remembered with love and gratitude.
