Legarda sustains support for MSMEs

SENATOR Loren Legarda has increased funding support to expand and enhance the capabilities and competency of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by allocating P1 billion each for the proposed 2018 budgets of the Pondo Para sa Pagbabago of the Small Business Corporation and the Shared Services Facilities (SSF) program under the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

National arts and crafts fair ongoing

Sen. Loren Legarda urges support for the country’s artisans and manufacturers of heritage crafts at the 2017 SikatPinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF).

The NACF, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion in coordination with the department’s regional and provincial offices with the support of the Office of Sen. Loren Legarda, is ongoing at SM Megatrade Halls in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City, until Oct. 29.

More funds eyed for documentation of extinct languages

SENATOR Loren Legarda intends to increase next year the budget of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) to “comprehensively” document the extinct and endangered languages in the Philippines.

She witnessed on Friday the signing of an agreement for the development of the Philippine Studies Program in the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.

Senator Loren Legarda today led the opening of the homecoming exhibition of Muhon: Traces of an Adolescent City – The Philippine Pavilion at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila

Muhon, curated by Sudarshan Khadka Jr., Juan Paolo de la Cruz, and Leandro Y. Locsin Jr. of Leandro V. Locsin Partners (LVLP), was the Philippines’ official representation in the 15th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2016, the country’s first official participation.

Weaving a nation

Yesterday marked the start of the National Museum’s international traveling exhibit, “Hibla ng Lahing Filipino,” in London with major support from Sen. Loren Legarda. That announcement, and a trip to the 7th Habi exhibit and sale of local handwoven textiles, got me thinking about how our textile and clothing industries have gone through many rough periods, and is still faltering today. This is a real shame when you consider that there’s a fashionista in every Filipino.

Legarda Lauds Military, Police in Marawi, Assures Assistance to Bereaved Families

Senator Loren Legarda today lauded all the military troops and police personnel who fought in Marawi City, which eventually led to the city’s liberation from terrorists.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, also assured that the bereaved families of slain soldiers and policemen would be given financial support as mandated under the law.

Legarda: Hibla, Keeping Philippine Weaving Tradition Alive

As Senator Loren Legarda leads the opening of the first Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition at the Philippine Embassy in London, she stressed the importance of the project in keeping the Philippine weaving tradition alive.

The Hibla Travelling Exhibition in London titled, “Piña-Seda: Pineapple and Silk Cloth from the Tropics,” will feature lectures onpiña-seda and demonstrations from weavers from Kalibo, Aklan and embroiderers from Lumban, Laguna.
