MANILA, Philippines – Apparently heeding calls from some groups and netizens not to make the event a fashion show, many lawmakers and guests donned less flashy outfits at the sixth and last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Aquino yesterday.

Senate approves IPs Day bill

THE SENATE on Tuesday approved on third and final reading a bill that sought to declare Aug. 9 as National Indigenous Peoples Day.
In a statement, Committee on Cultural Communities Senator Loren B. Legarda said that House Bill (HB) 4420 “seeks to recognize and protect the rights of the indigenous people (IP) across the country by dedicating August 9 to their causes.”

Loren Legarda wore over black sando top and pants a piña top by Marina Antonio, an heirloom clothing from her late mother, Bessie Legarda. She accessorized it with indigenous jewelry–bracelet from Kalinga, earrings from Abra and necklace from Vigan.
