Justice Palma Foundation holds Legal Forum on Climate Justice on November 12 at AIM

The Forum will answer the question, “Is Climate Justice a Human Right?”. The forum will be led by Senator Loren Legarda who has long championed the cause of climate change mitigation; Secretary Lucille Sering of the Climate Change Commission; Chair Chito Gascon of the Commission on Human Rights; Mr. Bonar Laureto of the Philippine Business for the Environment; and Atty. Jennifer Corpuz of the Tebtebba Foundation which advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples. Atty. Tony Oposa who has long-gained national and international recognition on environmental law will also grace the event.

Senator Loren Legarda who had won national and international recognition for her outstanding pioneering work on environmental concerns is guest speaker, with the following panel speakers: Secretary Luncile Sering of the Climate Change Commission; Atty. Antonio Oposa, Ramon Magsaysay Foundation awardee; Atty. Jose Luis Martin Gascon, chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights; Mr. Bonar Laureto, executive director of the Philippine Business for the Environment; and Atty. Jennifer Tauli-Corpuz, legal and human rights coordinator, Tebtebba Foundation. Dr. Carmencita N. Reodica, member, Board of Trustees of the JCMPF, will give the introduction while its chair, Dr. Mina T. Gabor, will give the welcome message. The other two trustees, Atty. Daisy Arce will moderate the forum and Grace Palma Tiongco will emcee the program.

Legarda hails passage of UniFAST Law

MANILA (PNA)–Senator Loren Legarda on Monday hailed the passage of the Unified Student Financial Assistance Sys-tem for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) Law or Repub-lic Act No. 10687, which was signed by President Benigno Aquino last October 15.

Legarda, one of the authors of the UniFAST Law, explained that the measure was crafted in order to expand and ratio-nalize the government’s scholarship program and to ensure that Filipino stu-dents, especially those belonging to indigent families, are fully supported throughout their studies.

Curatorial proposals for PHL Pavilion at 15th Architecture Biennale solicited

CURATORIAL PROPOSALS for the Philippines’ first national pavilion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale are being accepted until Oct. 30.

This is open to Filipino architects, curators, practising artists from the different disciplines, urban planners, ecological activists, geographers, historians and critics of space, heritage workers, and others. Curators, as an individual or group, are urged to submit concepts, which will undergo a democratic selection process.
