Legarda Calls for Creation of People’s Broadcasting Corp.

Senator Loren Legarda has filed a bill that would establish the People’s Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), to replace the People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTNI).

Legarda, a former broadcast journalist, said that the rapidly evolving media landscape, together with the need for a reinvigorated government-owned broadcast station, necessitates the abolition of PTNI to be replaced by PBC, which will be granted both television and radio broadcasting rights.

Legarda Seeks to Set Higher Standards for Country’s Health Facilities

Senator Loren Legarda has filed a bill (Senate Bill No. 411) that seeks to strengthen the regulation of the country’s health facilities and services to ensure the quality, safety, accessibility and affordability of health services, especially for the poor.

Legarda Pushes for Mandatory Nutrition Program in Schools

Senator Loren Legarda has filed a bill (Senate Bill No. 416) proposing mandatory child nutrition program in all public elementary schools and barangay day care centers in order to address the country’s worsening state of malnutrition.

Legarda pointed out that the country’s chronic malnutrition rate has increased from 30.3% in 2013 to 33.5 % in 2015 based on latest Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) data. Moreover, a study by the international organization Save The Children showed that 1 in 3 Filipino children suffers from stunting.

Legarda Supports ‘Budget for Real Change’

Senator Loren Legarda today expressed support to the administration’s major thrusts in the national budget and said that the Senate will work on ensuring that the people’s money will flow back to them through programs that are beneficial to all.

Legarda Pushes for Water Sector Reform

In a bid to address the challenges in the water sector, Senator Loren Legarda has asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to convene a technical working group to rationalize all the water agencies in the country.
