On World Wildlife Day, Legarda Urges Youth Involvement in Conserving Biodiversity

In observance of World Wildlife Day (March 3), Senator Loren Legarda has called on the youth to take part in biodiversity conservation efforts.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UN Global Champion for Resilience, made the call in line with this year’s theme, “Listen to the Young Voices”, which seeks to engage and empower the youth to act to protect endangered wildlife.

Legarda Renews Call to Limit Global Warming to 1.5°C

Now that the President has acceded to the Paris Agreement on climate change, Senator Loren Legarda stressed the importance of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UN Global Champion for Resilience, said that in President Rodrigo Duterte’s letter to the Senate with the Instrument of Accession, he mentioned the Agreement’s goal to “pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.”

Duterte signs Paris climate deal

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Despite his misgivings, President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The signed document was received by Senator Loren Legarda, who said she will sponsor it for concurrence. Present at the ceremonial transmittal was Deputy Executive Secretary Meynard Guevarra and Legarda, who is the chair of the Senate committee on climate change.

Legarda Welcomes the President’s Ratification of Paris Agreement

Senator Loren Legarda today hailed President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s ratification of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

On Wednesday, Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UN Global Champion for Resilience, received the Instrument of Ratification for the Paris Agreement from Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Meynard Guevarra.

Ministers from countries forming the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) and global thought leaders addressed the Philippine Senate today as they presented new research indicating development by emerging economies would be optimized if global teperature increase was below 1.5C degrees celsius.
