Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda lauded the Philippines’ retention of its Tier 1 ranking in the fight against human trafficking.
Legarda, co-sponsor and author of Republic Act No. 9208, or Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, says the country should maintain and strengthen its measures to prevent future cases.

In commemoration of Cultural Communities Week, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda gave importance to preserving indigenous peoples’ (IPs) traditions in various forms.
Long regarded as a champion of the rights of IPs, Legarda filed Senate Bill No. 1340, which seeks to protect and promote indigenous sports and games.
“Under Senate Bill No. 1340, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), in coordination with the Philippine Olympic Committee and the local government units, shall conduct annual regional and national indigenous sports competitions,” she said.
In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month this July, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda underscored support for programs dedicated to attaining disaster resilience.
Legarda, a United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Global Champion for Resilience, said there must be proactive ways to help the country withstand the effects of calamities battering the country annually.
“The Philippines is constantly hit by endless natural disasters every year, so we must be able to face any possible danger head-on,” she said.
