Senator Loren Legarda invites citizens to a weaving demonstration by Mandayas from Davao Oriental at the National Museum on November 15-16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Legarda, patron of the country’s first permanent textile gallery,Hibla ng Lahing Filipino, said that Mandayas from Barangay Sangab in the Municipality of Caraga, Davao Oriental will demonstrate the dagmay weaving.
The Mandaya is one of the indigenous communities inhabiting areas of the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary, recently inscribed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
Senator Loren Legarda said that disaster risk reduction (DRR) is not merely part of the private sector’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), but should be at the core of business strategies.
Legarda, United Nations Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) for Asia-Pacific, made the statement at the Top Leaders Forum 2014: Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration for DRR, organized by SM Prime and the UN Office for DRR (UNISDR) on November 10, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

Senator Loren Legarda today said that public-private partnerships (PPPs), which have been usually favored for basic services and infrastructure, could very well help fuel the country’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) thrusts.
