As the nation celebrates Oceans Month this May, Senator Loren Legarda today renewed her call to safeguard the world’s oceans from climate change impacts through the sustainable management and protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.
Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UNISDR Global Champion for Resilience, said, “Studies have shown that oceans have acidified, having absorbed about a third of the carbon dioxide emitted, which has caused coral bleaching.”
MANILA/SAN JOSÉ – On April 22, dignitaries representing no fewer than 175 parties signed the global climate change agreement concluded in Paris in December, setting a record for the adoption of an international accord. The show of support is heartening. It provides hope that the momentum that led to the breakthrough deal in December remains undiminished.

Senator Loren Legarda announced that the Philippine Pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia will be housed at the Arsenale, the largest pre-industrial production center of the world, where national pavilions of countries all over the world are located.
