Senator Loren Legarda today said that she sees stricter implementation of Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Law, due to stronger funding support and the ongoing investigation of the Ombudsman on non-compliant local government units (LGUs).
Legarda, principal author and sponsor of the law, made the statement in line with the upcoming 15th anniversary of the ESWM Act on January 26.
“We are experiencing continuous warming of the Earth’s temperature and we must do something about it—to adapt and mitigate. We need to halt global warming now, otherwise, our children will no longer be able to bear the heat,” said Senator Loren Legarda in reaction to reports that 2015 was Earth’s hottest year on record.
Recognizing the vital role of education in nation building and economic development, Senator Loren Legarda, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, said they have augmented the budget of state universities and colleges (SUCs) to support research programs and infrastructure building and to ensure the continuous upgrade of the country’s education system.
