Vigan City, Ilocos Sur – A lawmaker has sought the establishment of regional museums promoting traditional folk arts and local cultural treasures in the country.
The proposal of Sen. Loren Legarda is aimed at replicating the existing school of living traditions in Suyo, Ilocos Sur in which the cultures, arts and dances of cultural minorities in the province are taught to the younger generations.
Senator Loren Legarda has filed a bill (Senate Bill No. 420) that will mandate regional museums to promote traditional folk arts and local cultural treasures.
Senator Loren Legarda today called for convergence among government agencies that have programs for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to make sure that the government is able to provide assistance to as many individuals and communities as possible.
Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to view and observe demonstrations by weavers and embroiderers from Laguna, Aklan and La Union this week at the National Museum of Anthropology (NMA) in Manila.
