Legarda Urges Inventory of Resources, Funding for Philippine Rise

Senator Loren Legarda today stressed the need to conduct an inventory of marine resources in the Philippine Rise (formerly Benham Rise), emphasizing that this would give the country a clearer view of the importance of this undersea feature and what interventions are necessary to preserve, protect and sustainably manage these resources.

Legarda Hails Passage of Free College Tuition Bill

Senator Loren Legarda today hailed the Senate’s approval of the bicameral conference committee report on the proposed Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

Legarda, co-sponsor of the bill, said that the measure institutionalizes the provision of full tuition fee subsidy for students enrolled in all of the country’s state universities and colleges (SUCs), local universities and colleges (LUCs) and in state-run technical-vocational institutions.

Legarda: We Need a Roadmap for Paris Agreement Implementation

Senator Loren Legarda today said the Paris Agreement on climate change will be mere ink on paper without a roadmap of what government agencies and the private sector must do to help achieve the goals of the treaty.

Speaking at the Tripartite Conference on the Philippine Roadmap for the Paris Accord at the Manila Hotel, Legarda said the Philippines’ accession to the Paris Agreement is a testament of the country’s strong commitment to work with the rest of the world in ensuring the survival of this generation and the generations to come, and the ability of the Earth to sustain life.

Legarda: Improve Productivity, Build Competitiveness Thru Innovation

Senator Loren Legarda today said that the government could improve the country’s productivity and increase competitiveness by adopting innovation as a vital component of development policies.

Legarda made the statement as the Senate has passed on third reading the proposed Philippine Innovation Act, which she principally authored.
