On March 14 this year, the Philippine Senate voted unanimously to concur in the ratification of the Paris Agreement, making the Philippines the 138th[1] country, out of 197 parties, to ratify the deal.
The Paris Agreement is said to be a “testament of solidarity” and an instrument for global climate action. It provides a platform by which developing and developed countries shall pursue climate action and uphold climate justice together.
Senator Loren Legarda expressed support to the resumption of peace talks between the Philippine Government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) as the two parties re-opened the negotiations in Noordwijk, The Netherlands on Monday, April 3.

Senate Bill No. 1395, “An Act Rightsizing the National Government to Improve Public Service Delivery and for other purposes” which was prepared jointly by the two Senate panels — were authored by Senators Loren Legarda, Vicente Sotto III, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Gregorio Honasan II and Antonio Trillanes IV.
Legarda, head of the Senate finance panel, said the bills have been “considered, studied and deliberated upon and took into consideration the inputs from different government agencies, resource persons and other stakeholders concerned.”
As the observance of the 2017 National Women’s Month comes to a close, Senator Loren Legarda said that the Philippines can lead the global effort to achieve gender equality and women empowerment.
Legarda said that the Philippines is among the top countries that is successful in empowering women and addressing issues on gender gap.
