Senator Loren Legarda expressed support to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in strengthening its economic research activities and cultural diplomacy programs, stressing that these are essential in forging closer ties with other nations.
Senator Loren Legarda today hailed the approval on the committee level of her bills on preserving Gabaldon buildings and institutionalizing the Philippines’ Venice Biennale participation.
“I thank Senator Chiz Escudero, who chairs the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture for hearing and approving our proposed measures, particularly on the conservation of Gabaldon heritage school buildings all over the country and the institutionalization of the country’s yearly participation in the international exhibitions of the Venice Biennale, the world’s oldest and most prestigious global contemporary art platform,” said Legarda, principal author of the Philippine Arts in Venice Biennale Bill and author of the Gabaldon School Buildings Conservation Bill.
Bilang pakikiisa sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa ngayong Agosto, iginiit ni Senadora Loren Legarda ang pagpapahalaga hindi lamang sa Wikang Filipino ngunit pati na rin sa mga katutubong wika sa Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Legarda, mahalaga ang pagkakaroon ng malalim na pag-unawa at tamang paggamit ng Wikang Filipino sa pakikipag-ugnayan ng mga mamamayan sa isa’t isa, higit lalo sa mga usapin patungkol sa kaunlaran, kapayapaan at katarungan.
Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, today condemned the recent terror attack in Barcelona, Spain.
“We stand with the people of Spain and the international community in condemning the terrorist attack that has claimed innocent lives in Barcelona. Our thoughts and prayers go to those whose loved ones perished and wish a speedy recovery among the injured.”
Senator Loren Legarda today ensured stronger support for efforts to combat trafficking in persons, stressing that much more needs to be done even with the improved global ranking of the Philippines.
During the hearing for the proposed 2018 budget of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, commended the sustained and intensified government efforts against human trafficking but said that much more needs to be done.
