Senate Receives 2018 Proposed Budget from House

The Senate of the Philippines today (September 27) received from the House of Representatives House Bill No. 6215 or the 2018 General Appropriations Bill (GAB).

Senator Loren Legarda said that the Senate Committee on Finance, which she chairs, is ready to sponsor the 2018 GAB next week after the subcommittee reports are submitted this week.

Legarda Urges Strict Enforcement, Greater Participation in Ecological Solid Waste Management

Senator Loren Legarda today called on authorities to implement ecological solid waste management plans and strictly enforce regulations on garbage segregation and disposal.

Legarda, principal sponsor and author of the Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) Act, made the statement following a report by the environmental group Greenpeace that cites the Philippines as the third worst polluter of plastic in our oceans.

Legarda: 7-B DSWD Budget on Sustainable Livelihood Can Be Spent Thru Convergence

Following the guidance of Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is likely to fully obligate its 2017 budget for the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

During the hearing for the proposed 2018 budget of the Department, Undersecretary Emmanuel Leyco, DSWD Officer-in-Charge, cited the intervention of Legarda to link them with other agencies of government to be able to fully utilize seven billion-peso worth of funds for SLP before it expires by the end of the year.

Legarda expresses concern over declining FDIs

SENATOR Loren Legarda on Monday expressed alarm over the decline of the net foreign direct investment (FDI) to the Philippines as of the first half of 2017.

Legarda said that FDIs are an important measure in job generation, and its decline is a cause for concern.
