MANILA, Philippines – Voting 19-0, the Senate on Monday, March 5, concurred in the ratification of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the Philippines and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) states, composed of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
Senate foreign relations committee chair Loren Legarda, who sponsored Senate Resolution 64, said the agreement is part of the Philippine’s strategy to “gain a stronger foothold in the European market.”
Senator Loren Legarda today enjoined doctors, scientists, leaders, and experts from the health sector to further develop and promote preventive measures and effective solutions against deafness and hearing loss, as well as communicate the importance of hearing care, especially among the youth.

On World Wildlife Day (March 3), Senator Loren Legarda enjoined everyone to engage in biodiversity conservation efforts, particularly in protecting endangered wildlife.
Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UNISDR Global Champion for Resilience, said that threats to survival of wildlife species likewise endanger the delicate ecological balance.
Senator Loren Legarda today said that the main problem in Boracay Island is the weak enforcement of and non-compliance in the country’s environmental laws.
Legarda made the statement during the Senate hearing conducted in Boracay Island to look into the environmental issues concerning the famous tourist destination.
