In celebration of National Arts Month, Senator Loren Legarda today stressed the importance of establishing a Department of Culture in order to enhance the promotion and preservation of the country’s cultural heritage, which is essential in nation building.
Legarda, principal author and sponsor of the proposed Department of Culture Act, said that the creation of a full-scale department is important to have a legitimate government body that would initiate programs and coordinate all activities of promoting national identity and culture.
It will not be an overstatement to say that no legislator before or since has done as much for the state of Filipino arts and culture than Loren Legarda, three time senator, vice presidential aspirant, dogged environmentalist, relentless feminist, and broadcast journalist.
Senator Loren Legarda encouraged the officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to refine the systems and processes in implementing the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
The SLP aims to enhance the capabilities of poor Filipino households and individuals by strengthening their skills, competencies, abilities, and resources in accessing income-generating opportunities. It is meant to complement the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the DSWD’s flagship social welfare program.
Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to watch the 9th episode of the documentary series Our Fragile Earth: Protected Areas of the Philippines, featuring the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, on Saturday, February 3, 7:45 a.m., on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.
Senator Loren Legarda enjoins the public to watch the fifth episode of Dayaw Season 4 – Vessels of Culture, showcasing Philippine museums as “vessels” of Filipino history, culture, and arts.
Episode 5 titled, “A Treasure Trove of Museums,” will feature various museums in the metro, such as the National Museum, Ayala Museum, Lopez Museum, San Agustin Museum, and the much-anticipated Museo de Intramuros; as well as in the provinces, such as the Museo Ilocos Norte and the Taoid Museum both in Laoag, and the Bencab Museum and the Museo Kordilyera in Baguio.
