Senator Loren Legarda today hailed the Senate’s approval on third reading of the proposed measure that will improve the health and life expectancy of Filipino children by giving prime concern on the first 1,000 days of a baby’s life.
Legarda, co-author of Senate Bill No. 1537 or “The Healthy Nanay and Bulilit Act,” said that the first 1,000 days of a baby’s life, which covers the nine months of a mother’s pregnancy until a child’s second birthday, is the foundation of a person’s future health, intellectual development, and motor and social skills.
Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, today said that the Senate has unanimously concurred in the ratification of the Philippines’ Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) States, and acceded to seven maritime-related treaties.
Legarda, who sponsored the PH-EFTA FTA in plenary, stressed that the agreement was negotiated only with the promotion of fair economic cooperation in mind — one that will enable a business environment conducive for investments and provide opportunities for producers, consumers, and service suppliers alike.
Senator Loren Legarda, sponsor of Senate Resolution No. 647, said the measure concurs with the ratification of the FTA between the Philippines and the EFTA states. The resolution was approved with 19 votes, zero negative vote, and no abstention.
“Entering into an FTA with EFTA is part of the country’s strategy to gain a stronger foothold in the European market,” said Legarda, chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
According to Senate foreign relations committee chair Loren Legarda, the Convention remains as the “sole binding international legal mechanism” adopted by countries against cybercrime and is also crucial in fighting child pornography.
“This treaty is very important to protect our people from cybercrime especially since the country is the number one haven for those committing child pornography,” Legarda said in a statement.
