Senator “Inday Loren” Legarda today inaugurated two newly constructed multipurpose/evacuation centers located in barangays Patria, Pandan and Idio, Sebaste.
Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, said that she strives to strengthen her home province’s resilience by building evacuation centers that will serve as temporary refuge in anticipation of disasters, such as earthquakes, typhoons and floods.
Senator Loren Legarda shared with visiting French senators the government’s successful efforts to rehabilitate the island of Boracay, stressing that political will to implement laws was key to its success.
On behalf of the Philippine Senate, Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and President and Founding Member of the Philippines-France Parliamentary Association, hosted a delegation of French senators in Boracay on March 2. The French delegation was composed of Senators Jacky Deromedi, Simon Sutour, Philippe Mouiller, and Jerome Durain.
On World Wildlife Day, Senator “Inday Loren” Legarda urged Antiqueños to protect marine and wildlife species, especially those found in Antique’s protected areas: the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park in the border of the province and Aklan, the Sibalom Natural Park in Sibalom, as well as the rivers and marine protected areas in the province.
Senator Loren Legarda today supported the global call to reduce threats against marine species and also urged authorities and stakeholders to help protect marine wildlife and biodiversity from pollution and impacts of climate change.
Legarda made the statement in celebration of this year’s World Wildlife Day, March 3, which carries the theme of “Life Below Water: For Life and Planet,” aligning with Goal 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Senator Loren Legarda today said she has ensured funding for the agricultural sector of the country, particularly the funding for free irrigation for small-scale farmers to help them prepare and cope with the expected full blast of El Niño in the coming months.
“This will be a big boost for the agriculture sector as we have unburdened our small farmers, who are among the poorest of the poor even if they are the ones who feed the nation,” the Senator stressed.
