Senator Loren Legarda on Thursday led the opening of the homecoming exhibition of The Spectre of Comparison at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) after its successful run as the Philippine Pavilion exhibition at the 2017 Venice Art Biennale.
The Spectre of Comparison, curated by MCAD Director Joselina “Yeyey” Cruz, features the works of Lani Maestro and Manuel Ocampo. The exhibition looks at how the artists see the events of the Philippines and their adopted countries through an inverted telescope, comparing it to the experience of Jose Rizal’s protagonist in Noli Me Tangere, Crisostomo Ibarra, who experienced a double vision when he gazed out at the botanical gardens of Manila.

In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, May 22, Senator Loren Legarda urged leaders and citizens to take greater action in protecting Philippine biodiversity—considered one of the richest in the world—amid the escalating threats posed by global warming and climate change.
Legarda, UNISDR Global Champion for Resilience and UNFCCC National Adaptation Plan Champion, said that this year’s celebration carries the theme of “Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health” and emphasizes the importance of protecting biodiversity as the foundation of health and food systems.
In celebration of International Museum Day (May 18), Senator Loren Legarda encouraged everyone to discover the different aspects of the nation’s culture and history through our museums.
Legarda, a staunch advocate of art and culture promotion, said that this year’s theme, “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition”, is apt in promoting the significance of museums, which are vessels of important historical knowledge and cultural heritage and showcase the invaluable Filipino talent.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier said that the Philippine ambassador and consuls in Canada were recalled, following Canada’s failure to ship back the containers before the May 15 deadline, and that the Philippines would have diminished diplomatic presence until Canada removes its garbage in the country.
