Message of Senator Loren Legarda
Inauguration of the New Chancery of the
Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt, Germany
17 June 2019
Foremost, I wish to greet all our kababayans a Happy Independence Day. It has been 121 years since the declaration of Philippine Independence and I hope all of us will continue to be inspired by the courage and love of country that our heroes and forefathers have demonstrated in order to claim our nation’s sovereignty.
As the nation celebrates the 121st anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence, Senator Loren Legarda today urged Filipinos to unite in making sure that our country achieves inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth so that every citizen will be free from poverty.
“Freedom is not only the absence of an oppressor. We have won against the colonial shackles that have plagued our history, but we have more challenges to overcome, one of which is poverty,” Legarda said.
In celebration of this year’s World Oceans Day (June 8) and Coral Triangle Day (June 9), Senator Loren Legarda pushed for the promotion of gender equality in the sustainable conservation of our oceans and marine resources by encouraging more women participation in marine research, policy and decision-making processes, advocacy communications, and project management.
