Legarda on Ocean’s Month: Save Our Oceans from Plastic Pollution

In celebration of the “Month of Ocean” this May, Senator Loren Legarda called on national and local leaders and citizens to help save our oceans from plastic pollution by implementing and educating ecological solid waste management practices within households and communities. 

Legarda said that the Month of Ocean is annually celebrated during the month of May by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 57, s. 1999 and that the theme for the 20th anniversary this year is “Free the Sea from Marine Debris,” which focuses on the issue of marine debris and its effects to coastal and marine resources.

Legarda: Accelerated Spending Needed to Achieve Growth Target for 2019

In today’s committee hearing on the status of implementation of the 2018 budget and the effect of the four-month re-enacted budget on the 2019 projected economic growth, Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, said that accelerated spending and implementation of government programs are needed to achieve its growth target for 2019.

The Spectre of Comparison Debuts in Manila After Run in 2017 Venice Art Biennale

Senator Loren Legarda on Thursday led the opening of the homecoming exhibition of The Spectre of Comparison at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) after its successful run as the Philippine Pavilion exhibition at the 2017 Venice Art Biennale.

 

The Spectre of Comparison, curated by MCAD Director Joselina “Yeyey” Cruz, features the works of Lani Maestro and Manuel Ocampo. The exhibition looks at how the artists see the events of the Philippines and their adopted countries through an inverted telescope, comparing it to the experience of Jose Rizal’s protagonist in Noli Me Tangere, Crisostomo Ibarra, who experienced a double vision when he gazed out at the botanical gardens of Manila.
