MANILA, 19 August 2020 — For the 14th episode of “Stories for a Better Normal: Pandemic and Climate Change Pathways,” with the topic “Planting Native Trees,” native tree experts and enthusiasts will discuss how native trees have higher value both commercially in tree farms and for biodiversity and how they aid in addressing the adverse impacts of climate change.

Legarda Continues to Provide Assistance to Antique Fisherfolk

Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda continues to value the natural resources of Antique and the untiring labor of the Antiqueños as she brings to the province programs and assistance for sustainable livelihood in the fisheries sector.

“Antique has abundant marine resources. Majority of Antiqueños depend on the coastal biodiversity for their daily food consumption and for their income. Thus, we have to further aid the fisherfolk with programs and services to protect their livelihood and at the same time maintain food security in the province,” Legarda said.

Legarda Vows Continued Support for Higher Education in Antique

Deputy Speaker and Lone District of Antique Representative Loren Legarda has committed her full support for the uplifting of higher education in the province of Antique.

With her commitment to bring down the number of out-of-school youth further as well as to improve the quality of education in the province, Legarda continued to provide Antique with programs such as Tulong Dunong in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Antiqueño college students have been beneficiaries of the program since 2016 with over 19,000 scholars as of date under the allocations supported by Legarda. For the academic year 2019 to 2020, a total of 3,589 grantees were able to avail of the Tulong Dunong Program in Antique.
