Senate Ratifies 2018 National Budget

The Senate today ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the proposed 2018 General Appropriations Act.

Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, said that the 2018 national budget will be instrumental in ensuring that the Philippines maintains its economic status as one of the fastest growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Legarda Graduates from AFP College, Receives Academic Excellence for Research on AFP Resilience

Senator Loren Legarda today graduated from the Command and General Staff Course, as part of Class 62, of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Command and General Staff College (AFPCGSC), which will qualify her for promotion to full-fledged colonel.

Legarda also received the Academic Excellence for Research for her paper “The AFP in the Humanitarian Space: Building Resilience, Fostering Resilient Communities,” which explores the role of the military not just in responding to disasters, but also in reducing climate and disaster risks.

Legarda Hails PH Credit Rating Upgrade from Fitch

Senator Loren Legarda today congratulated the Administration’s economic team as she welcomed the investment upgrade of the Philippines’ Foreign-Currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) from its 2013 rating of “BBB-” to “BBB” issued by the credit rating agency Fitch Ratings.

The new rating provides the country with a “stable” outlook, which means that the “upside and downside risks to the rating are balanced.”

In observance of the International Human Rights Day (December 10) and the anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement (December 12), Senator Loren Legarda expressed how important it is for the Philippines, which remains to be one of the highly vulnerable countries to climate change, to pursue climate justice in the international arena for the millions of Filipinos whose basic human rights are curtailed because of prevailing climate change risks and impacts.

Legarda Ready to Sponsor PH-EU Cooperation Agreement, Social Security Treaties with Sweden, Germany

Senator Loren Legarda is ready to sponsor treaties with the European Union, Germany and Sweden before the Senate goes on break next week.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, today conducted a hearing to discuss concurrence in the Philippines’ ratification to three treaties: the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation Between the Philippines and the European Union (PH-EU PCA); the Agreement between the Republic of the Philippines and the Federal Republic of Germany on Social Security (PH-Germany SSA); and the Agreement on Social Security between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Sweden (PH-Sweden SSA).

Legarda Encourages Energy Conservation Practices

In observance of Energy Consciousness Month, Senator Loren Legarda encouraged Filipinos to practise energy conservation measures to save on energy resources and as a way to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.

“Energy conservation must be a way of life. It is economical and also environment-friendly.
