Legarda: Hibla, Keeping Philippine Weaving Tradition Alive

As Senator Loren Legarda leads the opening of the first Hibla ng Lahing Filipino Travelling Exhibition at the Philippine Embassy in London, she stressed the importance of the project in keeping the Philippine weaving tradition alive.

The Hibla Travelling Exhibition in London titled, “Piña-Seda: Pineapple and Silk Cloth from the Tropics,” will feature lectures onpiña-seda and demonstrations from weavers from Kalibo, Aklan and embroiderers from Lumban, Laguna.

From Venice to PHL: ‘Muhon’ Exhibit Comes Home

The Philippines’ first national pavilion in the Venice Architecture Biennale is home.

On October 26, 2017, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the Office of Senator Loren Legarda will open the homecoming exhibition of Muhon: Traces of an Adolescent City – The Philippine Pavilion at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

Legarda: 2018 Budget Funds Pension for Centenarians, Spouses of WWII Veterans

Senator Loren Legarda today said that the proposed 2018 national budget includes funding for the pension of centenarians and the full payment of the pension arrears for surviving spouses of deceased World War II veterans.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, said, “For the second year in a row, we are funding the Centenarians Act by allocating P189.5 million for a one-time cash grant of P100,000 each to 1,895 senior citizens aged 100 years and over.”

Legarda Invites Everyone to 2017 SikatPinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to support the country’s artisans and manufacturers of heritage crafts at the 2017 SikatPinoy National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF).

The NACF, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) in coordination with the Department’s Regional and Provincial Offices with the support of the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, will be held from October 26-29, 2017 at the SM Megatrade Halls in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

Legarda Ensures Funding for Damaged Schools in Cagayan

Senator Loren Legarda today said that she will ensure that funds are appropriated for the repair or construction of buildings in schools, universities and colleges in Cagayan province that were damaged by Typhoon Lawin last year.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, made the statement following reports that damages left by the typhoon to Cagayan schools in the amount of P597 million have not yet been addressed.

Legarda: Cater to needs and aspirations of marginalized sectors to eradicate poverty

Senator Loren Legarda today called on authorities to ensure that the poorest of our poor belonging to the most vulnerable and marginalized sectors of our country are provided with the necessary government interventions—that address their needs and support their aspirations—in order to achieve inclusive growth and eventually alleviate poverty.

Legarda made the statement today, October 17, 2017, in celebration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, with this year’s theme calling for all nations to end poverty towards a path of peaceful and inclusive societies.
