Legarda Gifts Antiqueños with Musical Treat from Rondalla Ensemble

December 15, 2018

Two weeks after the back-to-back performance of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) in Tibiao and San Jose, Senator Inday Loren Legarda gives another musical treat to Antiqueños, this time courtesy of the Kabataang Silay Rondalla Ensemble.

“This is another gift to my kasimanwas in time for the Simbang Gabi. But aside from the musical treat, it is also a showcase of our musical heritage,” said Legarda, who initiated the Rondalla: Strings of Unity outreach performances in Antique.

The performances will be held on December 15 at Sitio Datu Sumakwel, Brgy. Malandog in Hamtic, and on December 16 at the People’s Plaza, San Jose, Antique.

The Kabataang Silay Rondalla Ensemble from Negros Occidental is one of the country’s greatest rondalla ensemble. The group has given the country honor with lauded performances in China, Scotland, Singapore and Taiwan (and many other places in the Philippines). They received accolades including the “Award of Excellence” in 2001, and at the 2010 Aberdeen International Youth Festival.

“Music is an important part of our lives. It has the power to motivate, influence our mood and emotions, inspire, and bring about understanding among peoples. My goal in having this Rondalla outreach concert is not only to bring Yuletide cheer to Antiqueños but also to share with them a part of our musical heritage,” said Legarda.

“We have a very rich culture and this is what I want my fellow Antiqueños to continuously discover. Perhaps through this, we can also encourage Antiqueños, young and old, to discover their musical talents,” Legarda concluded.
