Jeepney drivers unite for Loren

THE FEDERATION OF JEEPNEY OPERATORS AND DRIVERS ASSOCIATIONS OF THE PHILIPPINES (FEJODAP) ENDORSED NP-NPC-LDP VICE PRESIDENTIAL BET LOREN LEGARDA FOR HER PRO-POOR LEGISLATIONS AND FOR FAVORING THE TRANSPORT GROUP’S ADVOCACY TO JUNK THE OIL DEREGULATION LAW.
“We support Senator Loren Legarda for her pro-poor laws and her concern for the livelihood of jeepney drivers,” said FEJODAP President Zenaida Maranan.
Earlier last year, Legarda called on Congress to review the oil deregulation law for possible amendments.
“Our people had been blaming this law for years now for the unabated rise in the prices of petroleum products, arguing that the lack of regulation of the industry by the government had allowed oil players to act like a cartel,” said Legarda.
Legarda added that oil deregulation affects both jeepney operators and the commuting public who are helpless against the oil price spikes dictated by major oil companies.
“It is high time that this law, Republic Act 8479, is put under a microscope by the Senate and the House of Representatives to determine if, indeed, it is being exploited to the detriment of consumers. If it is being used as a tool of exploitation, then it has to go,” she said.
