Senator Loren Legarda today expressed optimism that the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) would finally come up with a peace accord that is agreeable to both parties and beneficial to the Filipino people.

Legarda said that many of the NDFP’s proposals can already be addressed through existing laws and government programs.

Planning is the key

Environmentalist Sen. Loren Legarda can never overemphasize this common and practical warning, though given small thought by fatalistic Filipinos: “We never know when an earthquake will occur. But we should know what to do before, during and after the occurrence of such events. Regular safety drills should be done to familiarize citizens with safety and disaster preparedness measures.”

Legarda urges Filipinos to ‘carbon fast’

In observance of the Holy Week, Senator Loren Legarda is encouraging Filipinos to “carbon fast,” a kind of fasting that she said is “environment friendly.”

“As stewards of God’s creation, it is beneficial to everyone—humans and other species alike—if we become more aware of our actions’ effects on the environment. As we observe Holy Week, it may be good to reflect on this and it would be best if we can take action against environmental degradation and promote the sustainable use of our natural resources,” Legarda, an environment advocate, said in a statement on Monday.
